In the wild Polystachia has developed to live in a wide range of habitats, from sea level to 800 metres. As such it is vary adaptable to conditions within the home. Looking more like an exotic bromeliad, the leaf cups near the stem can hold water (as long as it is fresh) Plants vary greatly in size and when grown well can be 30cm tall and wide! Grown in shadier conditions the leaves are soft, dark green and when it is in good light the leaves take on a yellowy colour, sometimes tinged with pink. Floral bracts are a combination of green and red, and the flowers are violet.
